Nottinghamshire Junior Chess

9 year old Mark Kenyon, a member of WNCC, has just been chosen to represent England in the Under 10 World Championships in Greece next October. He gained his selection after coming equal first in a trial event held in London over the weekend. He got the nod due to a better sum of opponents score. The lad he tied with, Matthew Wadsworth, had already represented England twice before and has 4 GMs and another strong player to assist his coaching. Mark only has me and the excellent NPSCA coaching sessions.

This season we have six U11s, including two year 5s, who have qualified for the England U11 trials and our county squad continues to be amond the top counties in the country. We are the current National Champions and were equal second in 2008. GM Mark Hebden has been heard to say, "How is that Nottingham continues to produce so many good juniors?" But for all our continued success and consistency, acknowledged publicly by IM Mike Basman, the ECF continues to ignore what we do!
