County U14s Championship
Report by David Levens
On Sunday 25th September Notts entered an Under 14 team in the annual county U14 team championship, held in Northampton, and finished second overall just behind Sussex, but ahead of Kent by three points!
1 | Sussex |
2 | Nottinghamshire |
3 | Kent |
Our team, in board order, was:
1 | Jonah Willow | WNCC | 3/3 |
2 | Adi Munshi | WNCC | |
3 | Anita Somton | WNCC | 2/3 |
4 | Armaan Gogia | WNCC | 3/3 |
5 | Ritika Maladkar | WNCC | 2.5/3 |
6 | Ben Gilpin | West Bridgford | 1/3 |
7 | Lavanya Maladkar | WNCC | 3/3 |
8 | Vidura Mendis | WNCC | 3/3 |
9 | Kiera Bentley | WNCC | 0/3 |
10 | Alana Leung | WNCC | |
11 | Thomas Bowden | WNCC | 2/3 |
12 | Asta Knight | WNCC | 2/3 |
This was a great results by our youngsters, but it's a great shame to realise that without WNCC children we would not have been even able to enter! What a great day it could be if I had to select a junior side from most of the NCA club sides.
Please, all clubs, try and imagine how much chess will be played in Nottingham in 50 or even 20 years time without encouraging juniors to join your clubs now!? At the moment, without the juniors that have been developed by the NPSCA, Notts would struggle to field a decent U100 or even a decent U120 team.
